Scientific standards

Academic work in the university context requires, above all, correct citation in order to make sources transparent, along with a precise writing style to present your own argumentation clearly and comprehensibly.

As academic texts are a different genre from a political speech, a personal note, a newspaper article, a school essay, or a pure expression of opinion, there are clear rules for writing academic papers.

You must acquire these skills through practical work. If your academic work is formally deficient, the value of the content is greatly diminished. We place great importance on formal aspects because they ensure that you deal reflectively with yourself, the material, the arguments, etc. For example, an inability to cite sources appropriately can also be a sign that you are unable to adequately distinguish between different speakers' positions.

We would like to recommend the services offered by the LMU Writing Center to train your writing skills. They offer numerous courses and workshops, including individual consultations.
